Ken Robinson's TED Talk about education was very formal, funny but still delivered a very moving message. He talked about irony, creativity and curiosity in his speech; all are very essential components in the education system. I thought his whole speech pertained to Genius Hour very well other than the irony point. When talking about irony he explained how the United States is bad with this. The citizens whether they are young or old are guilty of this and it truly affects the education system as a whole. Although this is an obvious issue that other nations do not generally deal with I personally do not think it pertains to the ideology of Genius Hour. However, his other two points demonstrate Genius Hour perfectly.
After doing genius hour for an entire marking period I have been able to come up with some pretty cool ideas. Brandon and I are taking on the job of redoing the conference rooms for the future use of it at Kingsford High School. We want to be able to contribute to the school in some way for other people to use for years to come and we think this is perfect. Genius Hour gives the students an opportunity to express their ideas in their own way and do it in a way that they think is best for them. It is unique. I agree with the article in the ways that they talked about specific examples of how genius hour has come about in different schools. I also agree about the information regarding how they gained the support of the parents and students who participate in genius hour. No, I think the article is a great representation on Genius Hour and how the students are able to learn something in a way outside of regular school criteria and forced lesson plans. It is a way to really set the students up for the future when they are required to do this on a day to day basis.
